The Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest, both World Heritage Listed destinations, are normally at the top of the list of things to do when you holiday in Port Douglas. But what is a trip to the Australian tropics without seeing a great big, huge, ancient, fearsome saltwater crocodile?!
Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures (named after Hartley’s Creek which was discovered in 1882) is a multi-award winning tourist destination and one of the best places in Australia to see our famous ‘Salties’ up close.
But wait, this is not your average crocodile farm! There are over 2 km’s of boardwalks and paths that take you through the natural woodlands and rainforest inside the park giving you access to a wide variety of wildlife including tropical birds (including the beautiful Cassowary), pythons, turtles and a heap of other fauna.
The crew at Hartley’s also run daily presentations and feedings for the crocodiles, cassowaries, snakes, koalas, quolls and wallabies. It doesn’t get much better than that.
The last thing that needs to be highlighted is the Big Croc Experience. A maximum of 4 people will join one of Hartley’s senior crocodile handlers and learn all about these most ancient creatures. You even get to hold a juvenile estuarine crocodile and pole feed one of the big adults. Wow.
The Big Croc Experience is run at 10.30am and 1pm daily and bookings are essential. Ask us to check availability for you.
