The coastline from Cairns to Port Douglas, and on up to the Daintree and Cape Tribulation, is simply spectacular. Mountains run along the length of this tropical coast giving us a ragged skyline and wonderful gorges and walking tracks.
The township of Port Douglas sits at the end of a small promontory giving fantastic views of the mountainous coast to the north and south. But the very best place to experience the full glory of the Daintree Coast is from out on the water and there’s no better time to do so than as the sun sets to the west over the mountains.
There are a number of operators offering 1 1/2 to 2 hour sunset cruises and at least one operator that combines a sunset cruise with an afternoon snorkeling out at the Low Isles. With a glass of sparkling, wine or cold beer in hand, good company, a warm breeze and the sun setting in a blaze of orange, it’s hard to imagine a more perfect setting.
