This full day tour of Mossman Gorge and the Daintree Rainforest is an Aboriginal Cultural Experience run by Maryanne Jacques at Adventure North Australia in conjunction with Bama Way Aboriginal Journeys, a partnership of three highly acclaimed Aboriginal-owned and operated businesses.
The Daintree Dreaming Day Tour is guided by the traditional custodians of this magical land and the days activities are done from the perspective of the Kuku Yalanji people. You are taken from your Port Douglas accommodation into the ancient World Heritage Listed Daintree National Park and experience:
- A coastal mangrove walk at the beautiful Cooya Beach, a traditional fishing area for the Kuku Yalanji people. Here you will be introduced to time honoured fishing and gathering techniques used by the traditional custodians, looking for crabs, mussels and fish which are cooked and shared with homemade damper.
- Welcome to Country Ceremony. This traditional smoking ceremony is a spiritual cleansing to ward off evil spirits and accept and honour your arrival in these traditional lands and is performed by Aboriginal people with the specialised cultural knowledge required to lead a Welcome to Country Ceremony.
- Mossman Gorge. This is the home of the Kuku Yalanji people and one of the oldest and most beautiful rainforests in the world. As well as the boardwalks, tracks and bridges that take you through the rainforest canopy and around the spectacular Mossman River waterholes, you are privileged to be given access to an area within the gorge that is not available to other tour operators. Remember to bring your bathers to make the most of this stunning place.
- There is an optional Guided Rainforest Walk in which an experienced indigenous guide will demonstrate traditional plant use, identify bush food, and how the traditional owners made bush soaps and ochre paint. This walk is on private walking trails and includes an enchanting narrative of the rainforest and the people who have lived here for 10’s of thousands of years.
Your tour departs Port Douglas at 8.30am aboard a purpose built 4WD.
Note: The optional Aboriginal Guided Rainforest Walk is $60 per adult and $30 per child (4-14). Please add this in the booking comments section if you want to add this option and pay for it on your arrival in Port Douglas.
